During the summer of 2004 I worked as an intern for Capstone Properties. While I was going through the application process, I was looking for an internship that would provide me with experience in a variety of business settings. My position with Capstone did just that. This was not a typical internship in that I did not spend my time answering phones, shredding paper, filing papers, or making copies. Instead, I was given several projects and a large amount of responsibility. On a daily basis, I was working on 4 or 5 different projects while at the same time interacting with tenants, showing apartments, and negotiating leases with prospective tenants. I feel I learned so much about the real estate business and working in an office in general because everyday was filled with different tasks. Furthermore, the people I worked with at Capstone were wonderful. I talked to the company’s founder several times each day, and David was always ready to answer my questions and suggest alternative methods for how to handle a project or situation. The manager at United Apartments, Bob, was also great to work with. Everyone truly made me feel welcome and they made the office a fun place to be. Working in a smaller office allowed me to get to know all of the Capstone employees and by the end of the summer, I felt like I had made several friends and contacts at Capstone. All in all, I feel like I greatly benefited from my time at Capstone and I am grateful for the experience.
