Stages Early Learning Center expected to open second facility in Albany

ALBANY — After almost five years of operating a childcare center in Athens, the owners are planning to expand the business to Albany next month.

Stages Early Learning Center, housed on the grounds of the former River Valley Community School on West Union Street, will be the new addition to the revamped Alexander Elementary School building, now dubbed Center Albany. The plan is to open the doors of Stages Albany on Aug. 20, pending an inspection with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. (more…)

Each morning, chef Amy Foster is in an apron by 5 a.m. to start her first batch of from-scratch biscuits for a new eatery that’s bringing Albany residents together. Whether it’s Foster’s home-style breakfast, served all day, or the memories of Albany Elementary School that have people lining up at its door, this past weekend proved that Albany’s new Schoolhouse Café could become a village staple. ALBANY — People who can remember eating school lunches in the former Alexander Elementary School building will be able to eat there again, but this time they’ll have a choice of food and it promises to be tastier.

A new café will begin regular operating hours Monday in the Albany building, and a grand opening celebration is planned for Friday. Center Albany Café and Catering is a sit-down restaurant that promises “down-home specialties made from scratch” by chef Amy Foster. (more…)
